Our Library

The United Church of Christ of Kent is blessed with a handsome library. When the architect was creating plans for the addition to the Church, he had a unique idea for the location of it, making creative use of the lower entrance. The entrance opens into a comfortable lounge with the library opening from the lounge, thus providing a comfortable place to sit while browsing. With a generous gift of $5,000, we were able to realize a dream of moving the library from the room which was contrived by placing a wall across a small section of the education department’s storage room. Crowded and dull, it attracted few visitors.

With our gift and skilled volunteers led by Joseph Ripley, we were able to have the room furnished with beautiful, handcrafted shelving which brought the room to life. In addition the grant provided us with money to purchase new books to enliven the book collection which has grown to nearly 1,200 books.

We are blessed by volunteer Barbara Smith, a retired librarian, who organized our  collection, made it shelf ready, and continues to serve as librarian.
