The deacons are lay ministers called to serve as spiritual leaders of the congregation. There are two emphases in our work: worship and the care of the congregation.

 

For worship we coordinate and serve Communion, arrange for liturgists, greeters and ushers, and consult with the pastors on the shape of the liturgy.  We assist with baptisms and funerals, arrange for the altar flowers and take communion to members who are home-bound or sick.

 

To care for the congregation we work closely with the Called to Care ministry, a cadre of folks who provide practical support such as meals and rides to those who need assistance.  Along with the staff pastors, we also provide pastoral care and support. We help welcome new members and make prayer request cards available so people can notify the church of their prayer needs.

 

The deacons' major priority for this year continues to be congregational caregiving, support of our ministerial staff for the worship experience, and working in support of our church's strategic priorities throughout the next few months.
